Breckenridge Ski Resort officially opened on December 16, 1961, beginning on what is now Peak 8. Over the decades, it has grown into one of the most iconic ski resorts in North America through continual innovation and expansion.

  • 1960s–1970s: Early lift development and expansion into Peaks 8 and 9
  • 1981: Installation of the world’s first high-speed detachable quad chairlift
  • 1980s–1990s: Expansion into Peak 10 and major lift upgrades
  • 1996: Acquisition by Vail Resorts
  • 2002–2013: Major expansions to Peaks 6 and 7, including high-alpine bowl access
  • 2013: Peak 6 terrain expansion, increasing the resort to nearly 3,000 acres
