0013It’s that time of year again! The USA Pro Cycling Challenge is back for 2015 and is once again passing through our own backyard. Taking place August 17th-23rd, the seven day race features the world’s top athletes racing from Steamboat Springs all the way to Denver. This race through the Rockies will push athletes to altitudes higher than they have ever had to endure.

On the fourth day of the Challenge, cyclers will be rolling through the beautiful town of Breckenridge, just a few miles up the road from Frisco. The race will begin at 10:20 a.m. and end around 3:45 p.m. Contestants will begin by climbing 20 miles up Independence Pass. The race continues with more treacherous climbs of Trout Creek Pass and Hoosier Pass. This race in Breck will finally end after contestants conquer the wall up Moonstone road and then drop down out of Boreas pass.

If you’re interested in getting bird’s eye view of the race, book a room at the Frisco Inn on Galena and enjoy a front row seat. There’s lots going on beyond just cycling – for starters, you can head on over to Brews and Blues in the Festival Village for a cold drink and some music! Don’t forget to make your way back to Dredge Pond at 1:00 p.m. to see the cyclers cross the pond on their way to the finish line. And make sure to stick around after the race is over for some great post-race festivities. From 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. you can enjoy some Bluegrass by Trout Steak Revival in the Festival Village or make your way to the Riverwalk center to enjoy the Los Labos concert.

The USA Pro Cycling Challenge is definitely something you don’t want to miss, so make your way from the Inn to Breckenridge on August 20 to get a glimpse of the largest sporting event in Colorado.
