There’s nothing quite like a day of fishing in and around Summit County. Surrounded by epic mountain views and the crisp high-altitude air, you can enjoy a relaxing day on the river or in the lake where mountain trout and other fish abound. Whether you’re a fly fisherman or prefer to cast with rod and reel, we’re sure you’ll find the perfect spot to drop a line during your visit to Frisco.
Blue River
The Blue River is a Colorado favorite for fly fishing. It’s clear blue waters are heavy laden with mountain trout just waiting to hook a line. Located at the upper reaches of Hoosier Pass, the Blue River flows north through Breckenridge and Silverthorne to ultimately join with the Colorado River, ultimately filling two reservoirs (including Lake Dillon) along the way. This river’s journey creates many different fishing opportunities and one of our favorites is Section Two, running from I-70 through the Outlet stores to Hwy 9. This stretch of water contains several waterfalls and some of the largest trout in Colorado!
Colorado River
The nation’s seventh longest river, the Colorado River begins in the Rocky Mountains, traveling down the valley and widening out when it meets the Fraser River. This area of connection is known as “Middle Park” and boasts some of the best trout fishing opportunities around. During the summer here, the Colorado River is one of the best places on Earth for spending a day with fishing rod in hand.
Gore Creek
Just a few minutes outside of Vail, Gore Creek is a gold-medal stream famous for its large trout. Wading in Gore is the best option for this narrow, rocky, and tree-lined creek. The best spots for anglers in Gore Creek can be found along the outlet, and in outlying ponds. This creek offers fishermen a sure shot at snagging some Brookies, Cutthroats, Rainbows or Browns!
Lake Dillon
If you’re looking for a quick spot nearby the Inn to drop a line, Lake Dillon is a great option. Both lake and river (Blue River) fishing opportunities are available and it’s a great spot for beginners and pros alike to spend some time on the water.
These are just a few of the great fishing spots in the area. For maps and more info on where to fish in and around Summit County, visit the Colorado Fishing Network.
