Plato’s Corner — A Space for Stillness and Thought

In the southwest corner of our dining room, something quietly radical is taking root. We call it Plato’s Corner, a cozy, curated space designed for reflection, inquiry, and a gentle rebellion against the noise of modern life.

Here at the Frisco Inn on Galena, we’ve always believed that rest is more than comfort, it’s an opportunity for renewal. And what better way to nourish the soul than through the written word?

Plato’s Corner is stocked with thought‑provoking books on philosophy, creativity, empathy, history, and the many facets of the human experience. Some titles will challenge you; others may comfort you, but all are chosen to inspire deeper thought and meaningful conversation.

Whether you’re enjoying a morning coffee or winding down after a day in the mountains, we invite you to slow down, pick up a book, engage in conversation, and embrace ideas that just might matter.

Because words and ideas still matter…and stories can shape the world.

August’s Corner — A Study in Design as Philosophy

In the adjacent corner, the conversation takes form. August’s Corner, named after a character in Still, By Design, who reflects the spirit of the Inn itself: a meeting of past and future, mentor and student, thought and creation.

Anchored by Still: By Design, penned by our resident Innkeeper Avery Lane Maxwell, this space celebrates quiet reflection, intention, and thoughtful craft. The book is placed not as decoration, but with purpose. Where Plato invites us to question through dialogue, Avery’s work expresses those same principles through form, proportion, and clarity.

Set in quiet conversation with Plato’s Corner, this space completes the dialogue: thought made tangible, philosophy given shape. Together, the two corners offer a gentle alternative to the hurried world outside—a place to notice, to linger, and to let enduring ideas take shape in lived experience.
