summer activities in frisco colorado

Looking for somewhere new to go on vacation? Or are you a Colorado resident looking for a new adventure? Frisco, Colorado has plenty of exciting summer activities to offer.

While we may be known best for our snowy season, Summit County offers just as much, if not more, variety when the weather starts to warm up.

From mountain biking with the kids, to white-knuckle rafting along one of its rivers, Frisco is the perfect place to home base for all kinds of travelers, from leisure-lovers to adventure-seekers.

Enjoy Tranquility and Water Sports at Lake Dillon, Frisco

At the end of Main Street in Frisco is Lake Dillion (also known as Dillon Reservoir). Here you’ll find a wide range of activities ranging from relaxing to thrilling.

If you’re looking for a tranquil way to start the day, head to the lake first thing in the morning. With calm waters and breathtaking views, Lake Dillon is the perfect spot for a walk or picnic. Alternatively, if you or the kids are looking for something a bit more lively, try paddle boarding, rowing, fishing, or sailing. Or, rent a boat and take to the lake to explore on your own.

A number of companies in the area offer lessons and rentals. And don’t forget to head to Island Grill at the end of the day for one of their renowned fish tacos. You can also enjoy free live music most Fridays.

Mountain Biking and More in Frisco and Surrounding Areas

Bicycles are incredibly popular in Frisco. With fantastic bike parks, mountain biking, and road cycling options available, as well as a number of bicycle rental shops, there’s something for every level of bike enthusiast. The Frisco Inn also rents bicycles to its guests. (As at the desk for more information.)

There are two classic mountain bike trails available in Frisco – the Frisco Peninsula and Peaks Trail. The first is a 6-mile ride that will take about an hour, winding alongside Lake Dillon and linking up to other trails along the way. The latter is a bit more challenging, but can still be enjoyed by many mountain bikers. Peaks Trail offers a few technical elements and climbs to the ride, and you can start the trail from Frisco or Breckenridge. All in all, the route is around 18 miles long.

Alternatively, you might want to swap your bike for hiking boots, heading out on one of the many routes that Frisco has to offer. Head to our blog Day Hikes Around Frisco to read more.

Kayaking at the Play Park on Ten Mile Creek

For the only kayak play park in Frisco, you’ll want to visit Ten Mile Creek. This is normally open from April to July during the run-off months and it is free for all to enjoy. It includes a manmade water feature that is a Class 3 section – perfect for surfing while also practicing your freestyle maneuvers. Or, if you’re looking for something a little bit more challenging, you might want to head to the section above this park, which boasts Class 4 and 5 areas.

Visit Frisco Adventure Park

If nothing in this list has peaked your interest yet, we’re sure you’ll find something to enjoy at Frisco Adventure Park. The park offers wagon rides, ball fields, disc golf, skating, and bicycling, and is also the perfect place to start a hike or bike ride through the miles of shoreline accessible from its location.

The bike park, skate park, and disc golf course are all open throughout the summer months and are free for everyone to use. Frisco Bike Park caters for BMX bikers of all abilities, offering a dual slalom course, dirt jumps, a slopestyle course and a pump track.

The skate park also serves beginners, intermediates, and experts, providing a number of camp programs for youngsters from June to August. You’ll also find a day lodge where you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the stunning scenery on offer.
