June is finally here and summer is officially within reach. We love snow as much as the next person here in Frisco but we’re also big fans of summer and have been patiently waiting just the right moment to dust off our boat, air out our swimsuits and hit Lake Dillon for a summer full of fun water activities. June through August in Frisco is a lovely time to visit and we have room available at the Inn. Let us help you jump-start your planning by providing a list of the best ways to enjoy some local fun on the water.

Canoeing and Kayaking
One of our favorite ways to experience Lake Dillion is to explore the water by canoe or kayak. Lake Dillon is home to a plethora of wildlife and other geographical amazements that can only be seen on the water. Visiting with your entire family or a larger group? No worries. The Frisco Bay Marina offers canoes for 2-3 passengers and single use or tandem kayaks. If you’re a beginner to either sport or just want to learn more about your surroundings enjoy a guided tour or a class in basic safety and use of kayak or canoe. It’s hard to beat a quiet day paddling on the lake and you’re sure to return with a great story or two of your adventures.

White Water Rafting
Whether you’re looking to hit class V rapids or enjoy a leisurely but exciting adventure down the Arkansas River with the whole family The Adventure Company has plenty of options to choose from. Depending on your skill level you could be rafting on the Arkansas River, Clear Creek River, Blue River, or the Colorado River. Each trip takes anywhere from a ½ day to full day and most adventures include a delicious lunch and/or dinner. To get a better idea of what river is the best for your skill level, and where the meeting locations are, check out The Adventure Company’s online guide here.

Fishing
Colorado boasts plenty of fantastic fishing gold mines and Lake Dillon makes the list. Home to several species of fish such as Salmon, Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout and Snake River Cutthroat Trout, we promise you won’t go wrong fishing at Lake Dillon. The fishing pressure is low and easy access fishing spots are abundant around the lake. In addition to the exceptional fishing experience you can also enjoy a fantastic view and crystal blue mountain water. If you are planning a fishing trip, be sure to check the Colorado Fishing Atlas by the Colorado Parks and Wildlife to make sure you are appropriately licensed and find out what’s in season: http://ndismaps.nrel.colostate.edu/fishingatlas/.

Sailboats
You don’t have to be a trained sailor to experience the wind blowing in your hair as you cruise around Lake Dillon in a sailboat. By taking an introductory class at the lake you can ensure a smooth sailing experience. You can also rent sailboats at the Frisco Bay Marina. If you’re a pro, getting on the water is simple. Just take a verbal sailing quiz at the lake and you’re on your way. These boats can house anywhere from 5 to 8 passengers so are a perfect way to explore the lake with the whole family.

These are just a few ideas for enjoying the water in Frisco this summer. Don’t you can always bring your own powerboat to the lake, too. There are also options to go paddle boarding, rowing or even just relax on the beach and go for a swim. No matter what water adventure you decide to explore the Inn is here to help you with more information about rentals, or driving directions. Now get out and enjoy the sun!
