Crafts in Breckenridge

Breckenridge is one of the many popular ski towns in the Summit County area, but sometimes, you may not be interested in hitting the slopes. Maybe it’s a matter of weather, maybe you’re not able to ski for whatever reason, or maybe you crave a change of pace. No matter what your reasoning is, it’s always a good idea to have something to do as a backup, and Breckenridge has a great craft scene that comes into its own as the ski scene starts to wind down in spring. Here are some things to look out for.

Breckenridge Creative Arts Events: A lot of the creative activities in Breckenridge run through this group, also known as BreckCreate. Partners include the Breckenridge Backstage Theatre, Breckenridge Film Festival, Breckenridge Heritage Alliance, Breckenridge Music Festival and National Repertory Orchestra. Some of their major art-themed events include:

  • Breckenridge International Festival of Arts: A ten-day festival in summer, combining music, dance, and film with plenty of artsy opportunity to express yourself.
  • Street Arts Festival: This fun event pops up around the Fourth of July, combining chalk art and other classic art activities with a patriotic spin. Double up the fun, as this runs side by side with the town’s Independence Day Celebrations.

BreckCreate also offers a wide variety of smaller-scale craft activities. Sign up for a class on sewing, mending, ceramics, printmaking, painting, and more across the town of Breckenridge. However, if you don’t want something as formal and just need a chance to get in touch with your artistic side, there is an option here as well. Open Studio sessions have minimal supervision, other than a professional on hand to help guide or advise you as needed. Think of this as the artistic equivalent of a jam session: a chance to express yourself and try out a new medium. These generally require either taking a previous course or demonstrated experience in a certain medium.

Ready, Paint, Fire: Breckenridge has plenty of craft breweries to enjoy, but this spot is something truly unique. Combine beer and wine with workshops on painting, crafts, and glass fusing for a unique take on a date night. If you and that special someone want to take things to the next level, visit their studio for “Late Night, Date Night, Create Nights” or a Canvas Painting Party. Create your own unique artwork while relaxing and enjoying a few drinks together.

The fun is only starting! Several popular events in the town of Breckenridge, like the Viking-themed Ullr Fest or month-long Spring Fever Fest have craft components along with plenty of other activities. Consider booking your stay around of these events if you want to have a little extra fun.

Of course, after your trip’s busy schedule of activities, you want to have a nice chance to unwind with beautiful accommodations. Cap off your long day of fun and crafts in Breckenridge by relaxing and resting in style at Frisco Inn on Galena. We can’t wait to see you here.
