0040School is getting started and summer is winding down, but there are still plenty of warm-weather activities to experience in the Rockies this season. To take full advantage of this last bit of summer we recommend exploring Summit County’s bike trails. Biking through the High Country allows you to enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery while also soaking up the August sun and getting some great exercise.

As you get geared up for the ski season to come, explore the local resort areas on bike and get the lay of the land. Here are a few of the nearby resorts that are easily accessible by bike:

Frisco to Breckenridge

To access the path from Frisco, park at the park and ride next to Fiesta Jalisco and begin your journey. The trail starts behind the main street of Frisco. After a series of ups, downs, twists and turns, you will approach a bridge over the Blue River at the base of Gold Hill. Here you can see rock piles from Colorado’s mining days. The path eventually passes Kingdom Park and the Summit County Justice Center, which will signal that you’ve made it to Breckenridge. The path offers a 18-mile round trip ride that is smooth, safe, and perfect for the whole family.

Frisco to Vail Pass

This 14-mile one way ride is for more experienced riders looking for a challenge. Access the trail from the park and ride next to Fiesta Jalisco just as you do for the Breck trail, but turn right toward the Ten Mile River to head towards Vail Pass instead. The trail is hidden in the woods of Ten-Mile Canyon and areas of the path are surrounded by lovely beaver ponds and wildflowers. Once you cycle through the valley, you will reach the summit of Vail Pass at over 10,000 feet. This ride is steep and long so take plenty of water and check the weather before you head out.

Keystone to Frisco

This easy 10-mile (one way) trail is filled with beautiful scenery and offers an amazing mountain biking experience. Beginning in Lakeside Village, the path travels through the golf course and Snake River and comes out along Highway 6. After running into Dillon Dam road, the path hits a forest of pine and an undistributed view of Lake Dillon that makes the ride worth every turn of the pedal. The trail will ultimately lead you into the Frisco Marina area, where you can enjoy some great relaxation beside the lake before you head back to Frisco.
