So you’ve made your journey up to the mountains for the chance to play in the snow, and for most, that means you’ll be skiing or snowboarding, tubing at the Frisco Adventure Park, or sledding with the kids on the nearest snow-covered mountainside. All of the above activities are part of the reason we love living in Frisco during the winter. But, there are also plenty of out-the-box activities to experience if you’re looking for an adventure beyond the usual winter sports.

Kiteboarding
If you’ve tried your hand at snowboarding, kiteboarding may come more naturally to you. Just imagine sailing down the mountain on a snowboard as you hold on to a kite-like parachute. This is an activity designed for adrenaline junkies since you may well catch some serious air as you sail down the slopes. If you’re interested in trying this sport, Colorado Kiteforce will show you how it’s done. Lessons are given on a flat, groomed, snow-packed surface and are apart from the general public to help beginner confidence. There are several different options of classes from beginner to advanced so sign-up today.

Snowshoeing
There’s nothing like the tranquility of hiking through fresh powder in a silent mountain forest. Snowshoes are the perfect tool for walking over the snow because they distribute the weight of the person over a large area and keep you from sinking completely in the powder. The Frisco Nordic Center offers Snowshoeing Adventures. Some are guided and some are not, but for first timers, we definitely recommend the guided tours so you can learn about the mountains, local wildlife and other historic mining facts in Summit County. Check it out for yourself here.

Winter Zip lining
Zip lining is a very common summer activity for our guests, but have you thought about doing it during the winter? Winter zip line tours are approximately 2 hours long and start at an altitude of 11,200 feet up. On a winter zip lining adventure, you will have the chance to zip through Summit County and learn about our mining history, and see some of the old patented gold mines hidden beneath the snow. You also will likely see some elk and deer since the zip line property supports abundant wildlife. This activity is no colder than any other winter adventure so be sure to bundle up as you would for a day of skiing. Sign up today at Top of The Rockies Zip Line.

All three of these great Summit County activities will make sure you head home from your vacation with some great stories to share with your friends and family, beyond the usual skiing and snowboarding adventures. Plan to include one of these unique winter thrills in your Summit County vacation. And, if you stay at the Inn, we can provide you with even more fun adventures in Frisco.
