Are you itching for a chance to escape the city and head to the mountains this winter? We have three perfect excuses for you to make your way up to Summit County this February. Sure, you can always opt for skiing or snowboarding while you’re in the area, but this upcoming month Summit County will be holding the 45th Annual Gold Rush, 35th Annual Summit County 50+ Winter Games, and Copper Uncorked…three exciting events unique to the area and not to miss.

45th Annual Gold Rush
If you’re interested in Nordic Skiing, you can participate or just enjoy on the sidelines as a spectator. On Saturday, February 7th, the Frisco Nordic Center will host classic and skate ski races of various distances, and the courses will include snow-covered terrain of the Frisco Bike Park, Frisco Ski and Ride Hill, and much more. For spectators, you’ll have the opportunity to get a glimpse at possible future Olympians compete in these 3k or 5k exciting ski events. The races start at 8 a.m. and each race registration will include one free hour of tubing at the Frisco Adventure Park. For more information about registration and entry fees, click here. After the race is finished, join us at the Frisco Bay Marina to warm up at a bonfire and watch the sky light up with fireworks at 8 p.m.

35th Annual Summit County 50+ Winter Games
If you’re 50 or older, this is the event for you! Athletes from all over will head to Summit County from February 8th through February 10th to participate in the 35th Annual Summit County 50+ Winter Games, benefiting the Summit County Senior Citizens. The event will take place at the Keystone Resort and Frisco Nordic Center. To participate in this event you must be 50 years or older on or before the start date of the Games. There are several events that take place during these few days, including ice skating, alpine events, a Nordic relay race, a biathlon, snowball toss and snowshoe races. This fantastic event benefits the local community and is just plain good fun for all participants. For more information on the event, rules and registration, click here.

Copper Uncorked

Copper Uncorked will take place on February 15th in Copper Mountain. Restaurants throughout the town will offer casual wine-themed menus and specials that range from a glass of red wine to a wine flight.
