Scenic Drives in Frisco

While Fall may be a quieter season in the towns of Summit County, there is still plenty on offer, especially if you’re looking for a quiet getaway. With the explosion of color from fall foliage, it’s a perfect time to escape to the mountains. Don’t hesitate to make your trip to Summit County this fall. It can be an ideal time to take in the beauty of the changing seasons. Below is a list of some of our favorite scenic drives in the area.

Hoosier Pass

If you are looking for a picturesque drive near Frisco, try Hoosier Pass. Located just twenty miles outside of Frisco, this is one of the highest passes in Colorado with a paved road. There is a large parking lot at the top of the pass for taking pictures, as well as trails for those who are looking to get more active.

For those looking to stretch their legs and venture onto the trails, there is a three-mile loop hike above the tree line at the top of the pass. The loop showcases Mt. Lincoln and the peaks of the Mosquito Range. For those looking to four-wheel, there is parking near the continental divide sign, and a trail loop marked as Trail #208.

Near Montgomery reservoir, you will find picturesque views and waterfalls. This is the perfect spot to stop for pictures or to get out your pole and fish, as you soak in the crisp air and bright yellow aspens.

Copper-Leadville-Minturn Loop

If you are looking for a half-day drive from the town Frisco, try the Copper-Leadville-Minturn Loop. Follow these directions past each town, for a trip that provides beautiful views and the chance to experience the unique dining and shopping each stop has to offer.

Loveland Pass Loop

The Loveland Pass Loop, another half-day scenic drive, takes you from Frisco, through Dillon, past Keystone, to the top of the Continental Divide (see directions). The top of the divide provides a great area to walk around and take pictures or stretch your legs and explore.

Those looking for a longer hike, should try Grizzly Peak, a seven-mile hike which takes you all the way to 13,427 ft. If you are desiring an easier hike or just a place to get out and enjoy the scenery, take a walk on the loop trail, a three-mile loop that follows a ridge on the Continental Divide.

Boreas Pass

If you are headed near Breckenridge, try out Boreas Pass. At only 6.6 miles one way, and with a gravel road passable in any passenger vehicle, this a perfect and easy drive to take in the scenery. Once used as a narrow-gauge railroad in the late 1800s to early 1900s, this pass offers panoramic views of the mountains as well as takes you through gorgeous aspen groves. Capture photos of the Blue River Valley, the Ten Mile Range, and Breckenridge Ski Resort during one of the most beautiful seasons in the high country.
