After a long snowy winter, the greenery of spring will soon begin to show its color in the Rockies and one of our favorite ways to enjoy it is to get outside and enjoy a lovely picnic with someone special. Here are some tips on how to plan the perfect daytime spring date in Frisco!

Plan your meal
There are plenty of local eateries in town where you can grab great takeout. Or, if you want to make your own sandwiches or lunch items there are local grocery stores such as a Safeway and a Whole Foods near downtown. If you prefer to gather fresh produce from a local market, you can always stop by Uncle John’s Farm Stand, which is open every day from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. starting in June and is located at the entrance to the Marina. And don’t forget dessert – make a stop at Bun In The Oven Bakery. They have anything from cinnamon buns to delicious banana bread. As an added bonus, they have plenty of options for the gluten free and allergy sensitive.

Pick your perfect picnic spot
Frisco has a lot of great spots in town for a picnic, including Meadow Creek Park, which has plenty of picnic tables and amenities to prepare your grub. Another relaxing area to picnic is the Frisco Bay Marina. If you’re up for some water sports after your picnic meal, stick around the marina or, consider a wildflower hike on one of our great local trails.

Burn off some calories with a trek
When the wildflowers are in bloom and the air is crisp with springtime, there’s nothing better than a trail hike in Summit County. Here are a few great options:

Cucumber Gulch
The great thing about Cucumber Gulch is that it’s a perfect hike for all skill levels. The 2.2-mile trail is open from May until October and filled with wildflowers. If you’re lucky, this designated wildlife preserve might even treat you to a moose spotting. Cucumber Gulch is located in the middle of Breckenridge Ski Resort and you can find directions here.

Burro Trail
Another great spot to enjoy the flowers and springtime weather is Burro Trail. This trail connects with Spruce Creek drainage and the Wheeler Trail toward Copper Mountain. It’s another hike perfect for all skill levels and is filled with breathtaking views. For directions and more information click here.

Don’t forget, Colorado’s mountain weather is ever-changing so plan accordingly to avoid being stranded in a storm. And, be mindful of the “pack it in, pack it out” rule that keeps Colorado beautiful and make sure not to leave behind any of your picnic treats.

As always if you have any questions about directions to these trails, or want more information about other areas to hike, the staff at the front desk is there to help.
