The fall foliage is still colorful but starting to drop in the High Country. In some places, the first snow of winter has even begun to fall. But, before winter arrives in earnest, there are still a few good weeks left to enjoy the end of the fall season and the beautiful foliage that comes along with it. If you’re planning a getaway in Summit County this month, we have some great ideas of places you can enjoy the remaining seasonal color and fall weather. Whether you’re looking to stay warm in your car, or get bundled up and adventure outside, these are must-visit scenic locations we recommend.

Hiking Trails
First, a reminder: the weather is ever-changing in Colorado so be prepared to wear a coat and whip out a scarf if need be. But not to worry, there is still plenty of time to hike some of Colorado’s beautiful mountains and take in the vivid fall landscape before winter. So where should you go? If you’re looking for an easy trail, we suggest Rainbow Lake. It’s definitely a local favorite and if you’re feeling ambitious, this trail will take you all the way to Breckenridge. The trail is full of Aspen trees and towering pines that are lovely this time of year. And, Rainbow Lake is a beautiful spot to visit. For directions, click here.

Looking for something a tad bit more difficult? Give the Lily Pad Lake trail a try. This trail requires a modern to difficult skill level and can be found off 1-70 at exit 203, (the CO-9 exit for Frisco/Breckenridge). You’ll also find a plethora of Aspen trees and other wildlife on this trail that will set the fall backdrop you’re looking for. Directions to this trail can be found here.

Scenic Drives
If you’re looking to take in the last bit of fall foliage, but don’t want to endure the cold, check out these scenic drives in Summit County. Depending on what time you decide to embark on this mobile adventure you may have the opportunity to see wildlife along the way if you get going early. One drive that is popular with many visitors is the Copper-Leadville-Minturn Loop. This drive will take a good portion of your day, but gives you the chance to see an old military training camp, the wondrous mountains of Vail, and a scenic cruise back around to Frisco.

Another great drive is Loveland Pass Loop. The drive is perfect for photo ops and gives you a chance to see parts of Keystone, A-Basin and takes you to the top of the Continental Divide. If you’re looking for directions for these scenic drives, click here.
