Enjoy the End of Summer with Some Outdoor Events in Frisco, Colorado

Even though the end of summer is on its way, that doesn’t mean the warm weather fun is done in Frisco, Colorado.

Here are some exciting events on the Frisco calendar happening happening throughout August and September. Whether you’re heading up here on your own or arranging a family trip, there’s plenty of great summer and fall fun to enjoy!

Run the Rockies Trail Race in Frisco, Colorado

On August 12th at 8:00am, the annual Run the Rockies Trail Race will commence. Offering half marathon and 10k trails, runners will wind across the Frisco Peninsula while taking in the stunning surrounding scenery of the Ten Mile Range and Lake Dillon.

With both dirt road tracks and single tracks available, these courses are perfect for avid runners or people looking to take part in their first organized event. All the races start and end at the Frisco Day Lodge, with everyone who has taken part receiving a post-race medal and piece of celebratory race gear.

Entries are still open so, if you’d like to register, head over to the Town of Frisco website.

Kids’ Sandcastle Competition

Whether you’re taking part or spectating in the trail race or you just want to soak up the atmosphere in Frisco, why not enter the kids in the Frisco Bay Marina Kids’ Sandcastle Competition?

Also held on Saturday, August 12th, 2017, the competition starts at 10:00am with registration being held from 9:00am. The kids will have an hour and a half to build their award-winning sand castles, with the judges making their decision afterward and prizes awarded at 12:00pm. The gorgeous avalanche rescue dogs from Summit County will also help the judges along.

The awards will be dished out according to ages, with the groups being 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, and 10-12 years old. Each age division will receive a first, second, and third prize, with each team also receiving a free bucket and spade so they can continue to practice their newfound art.

This event will take place rain or shine so why not register in advance?

Annual Rockies Art Festival

Another not-to-miss event happening in the High Country on this jam-packed weekend is the 11th Annual Rockies Art Festival. Held over two days (August 12th and 13th), some of the nation’s greatest artists take over Frisco Main Street from 10:00am to 5:00pm. These artists will display their work across several blocks of Frisco, allowing you to browse and purchase their work at your leisure.

These original artists will also be showcasing their skills with demonstrations in ceramics, jewelry, photography, paintings, mixed media, sculpture, glass, and much, much more. It doesn’t matter what your tastes are or what you’re looking for because this varied and exquisite art fair caters to everyone.

Pedal for Pints Community Rides

Finally, if you fancy being rewarded for your exercise efforts, you might want to get involved in the Pedal for Pints Community Rides. These bike rides are open to people of all ages and held on Sunday mornings up until September.

The route starts in Copper Mountain’s Center Village and will be determined by the ability and age of all the ride’s participants. Leaving from Gravitee Sports, the community cycling event will tour around the area before returning to Center Village where all the ride’s participants can enjoy a well-deserved beverage, including beer and non-alcoholic beer. And if you aren’t taking your bike with you, there are plenty of places you can rent one.

An Event for Everyone

As you can see, there’s plenty going on in Frisco, Colorado this summer. Throughout the month of August, here are some other weekly events that promise to be a great time:

  • Live music and lawn games every Friday evening from 5:00pm in Copper Mountain’s Center Village
  • Lunchtime lectures every Wednesday at 12:00pm at the History Park and Museum in Frisco
  • The Concert in the Park Series (from Thursday 3rd to Thursday 17th), featuring artists such as Davina & The Vagabonds, Parsonsfield, and Will Donato Trio

And if live music’s just what you’re looking for, don’t miss Guitar Town at Copper Mountain. From August 11th to 13th, this free event features live performances from some of the world’s most revered guitarists. Previous performers have included Jimmie Vaughan, Buddy Guy, and Joe Satriani.
