It’s no secret that Frisco, Colorado is a beautiful place to visit and escape the stresses of every day life. There are so many things to do and see in Summit County that it can be hard to know where to start planning your adventure. We can help!

This time of year, we suggest spending some good quality time on the water at nearby Lake Dillon. Right in Frisco’s own backyard, Lake Dillon stretches across 3,300 acres and has 25 miles of shoreline surrounded by magnificent mountains. As you can imagine, there are a lot of activities that take place on this large body of water, and we’ve selected just a few that that are not to miss while you’re visiting Frisco this summer.

Canoeing and Kayaking What better way to see the lake than to with a view from the water, exploring your surroundings in a canoe or kayak? We brought our snorkel set and headed to Lake Dillon is home to a plethora of wildlife, and other geographical amazements that can only be seen on the water. Have a large group? Don’t worry. The Frisco Bay Marina offers canoes for 2-3 people, and kayaks that are single use or in tandem.   If you’re a beginner or want to learn more about your surroundings, not to worry! Guided tours are available at the lake to teach you safety, and the basics of how to get yourself out onto the water and paddling.  Whichever route you choose, you’ll be sure to come back to the lakeshore with a great story or two. Fishing Colorado boasts plenty of fantastic fishing gold mines, but Lake Dillon is home to several species of fish such as Salmon, Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout and Snake River Cutthroat Trout. We can promise you won’t go wrong fishing at Lake Dillon.  The fishing pressure is low, and easy access fishing spots are abundant around the lake. While the fishing is exceptional at Lake Dillon, one of the best parts of the experience is no doubt the fantastic view and crystal blue water.   If you are planning a fishing trip, be sure to check the Colorado Fishing Atlas by the Colorado Parks and Wildlife here to make sure you are appropriately licensed and to find out what’s in season: http://ndismaps.nrel.colostate.edu/fishingatlas/.

Sailboats The wind blowing in your hair, the smell of the crisp mountain air and the sun warming your skin…what could be better? This amazing experience can be yours by renting a sailboat at Lake Dillon’s marina. Not a trained sailer? Take an introductory class at the lake to ensure smooth sailing. Already a pro? Getting on the water is simple. Just take a verbal sailing quiz at the lake and you’re on your way. These boats can house anywhere from 5 to 8 passengers, which is a perfect way to explore the lake with the whole family.

Sandcastle Competition We understand that being out on the water isn’t for everyone, and if you’re here on August 4th you’re in for a real treat. The Third Annual Kid’s Sandcastle Competition will be taking place at Lake Dillon. Imagination runs wild lake side during this fun family event. We’ve seen castles from gummy worms to dinosaurs and there’s something new to see every year. All in all it’s a great time, and even if you can’t make it on the day of the contest, lots of sandcastles are always being made on the lakeshore throughout the summer so there’s always something fun to see. A day on the sand is relaxing for the adults, fun for the kids, and we definitely recommend it.     So get out there next time you’re visiting Frisco and explore all that Lake Dillon has to offer. All of the above activities are a blast and will leave you with great memories that will keep you coming back for more.
