The crisp air of fall has come to the High Country in Colorado and the vibrant shades of orange, red and yellow are beginning to transform the greenery of summer into a vivid fall landscape. Colorado’s fall foliage is remarkable and brings people from all parts of the world every year to see the mountainsides’ wondrous color change. The fall foliage change is about to be in full swing in Frisco and is expected to last into early October. It’s a great time to plan a quick getaway to the mountains to enjoy this lovely scenery before the snow flies.

While a simple hike in the peacefulness of the backcountry is a quick and easy way to get out and see the colors of fall, we also suggest these three fun and scenic activities to immerse yourself in the beauty of Summit County’s changing foliage.

Horseback Riding
Now more than ever is the perfect time to saddle up and trot through the hidden trails of the High Country. We suggest  booking an excursion with Western Sky Activities. Located in Breckenridge, they are just a quick drive from Frisco. Whether you’re looking to ride for a short period of time, or a few hours, a horseback ride in the mountains will let you escape the hustle and bustle of the city and introduce you to Colorado’s wilderness. If you decide on an early morning or late afternoon ride, breakfast and dinner are provided during your adventure and served cowboy style. Don’t forget to wear comfortable and sturdy shoes, jeans and maybe even your cowboy hat!

Chuck Wagon Ride
If horseback riding doesn’t give you your Western mountain cowboy (or cowgirl) fix, another fun way to enjoy Summit County’s fall color change is on a chuck wagon ride. This is a perfect way to enjoy an old-fashioned evening as you ride in a wagon pulled by mules to a campsite for dinner and cowboy-inspired games. Check in is at 5 p.m. and if you’re getting hungry, homemade biscuits and honey are provided as you watch the sun set over the many hues of autumn on your wagon ride to a barbecue dinner. Seating is limited so make your reservations with 2 Below Zero here or call 970-453-1520.

Zip-lining
If you’ve already wandered through the streets of Frisco or already enjoyed a backcountry hike to witness Summit County’s fall foliage, you might be ready to take your adventure to new heights. What better way to see autumn settle in than at the tops of trees? Breeze through nature by zip-lining on a two or four hour course with Top of the Rockies Zip Line. You can enjoy panoramic views of the mountains and get the ‘high’ of a rollercoaster ride on this outdoor adventure. Each line is equipped with a braking system that provides a smooth and safe stop to a landing deck and is a great time for the whole family.

Outside of these more unique adventures, there are many local trails that are perfect to hike for every skill-level. We also rent out complimentary bikes here at the Inn, and Lake Dillon is just a few short minutes away. As always, the staff at the Inn is here to answer any questions you may have, and we can also recommend other great spots you may be interested in checking out. Book with us today!
